Program Description

This course offers an introduction to drawing, no prerequisites required!
Students will learn about different drawing materials and surfaces. Through
observational drawing we'll discuss fundamental techniques and practices of
drawing such as perspective, value, form, light, surface, and texture. You will
learn methods of contour drawing as well as how to apply traditional techniques
of shading such as stippling and cross hatching and blending. This online
course will involve technical instruction, studio work, and group discussion.
This class will be held on Zoom for the entire term.

Riley Strom is a painter originally from Los Angeles, CA currently working
in Brooklyn, NY. She earned her B.A. from Sarah Lawrence in 2013 where she
studied painting and philosophy. She co-founded and ran the contemporary art
gallery, 99 Cent Plus Gallery from 2013-2016 in Brooklyn, New York. She received
an MFA in Painting from Tyler School of Art at Temple University in 2020. Her
paintings investigate the relationship between image and her lived experience by
means of symbolism, figuration, and abstraction.
