Junior League teaches 25 local Teens Money Sense!

Money $ense is a FREE financial literacy program for youth in the community by the Junior League of Greenwich.

The Junior League of Greenwich (JLG) welcomed 25 boys and girls in 9th-12 grades to Money $ense for Teens on Saturday, Feb. 29th at the JLG headquarters.

The free financial literacy program followed Junior Achievement’s “Personal Finance” curriculum. The one day session taught teens the interrelationship between today’s financial decisions and tomorrow’s financial freedom. To achieve financial health and wellness, they learned about money -management strategies, including employment and income, budgeting, smart shopping, investing and risk management.

"I signed up because I wanted to learn how to handle money and investments. I've learned new definitions and I'm starting to understand how to think about what I'm spending money towards and how to save." Sacnicte Arriola, 11th Grade Student at Greenwich High School

Money $ense is a free program by the Junior League of Greenwich to teach financial literacy skills to youth in the community. It started as a pilot project in Spring 2019 with a 5-week course for high school students at the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich. The program follows the curriculum of Junior Achievement but is led by the volunteers of the JLG. Seeing a need, the JLG has since expanded the program to middle school girls as a one-day session.

The Junior League of Greenwich (JLG) has been bettering the community for over 60 years. It is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained individuals. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. The Junior League of Greenwich welcomes all women who value the Mission.
