Keys Left In Car Leads To Attempted Vehicle Theft: Greenwich PD

Greenwich Police remind residents to lock their vehicles and take their keys with them.

GREENWICH, CT — Police said a resident's 2004 Maserati was nearly stolen last week after the keys were left in the unlocked vehicle. The attempted vehicle theft was reported Friday morning on South Water Street around 6 a.m.

According to Lieutenant John Slusarz, the resident heard the vehicle start in the morning and went outside to check it out. The resident reported seeing a man in the vehicle, who then got out of the car and ran away on foot, Slusarz said.

The resident also reported the vehicle was left unlocked with the keys inside it.

Slusarz said it is important for residents to remember to lock their cars, take their keys with them and not to leave any valuables inside a vehicle if they can be seen from the outside.

"Packages, gifts, handbags," Slusarz said, "put them all in the trunk if you're going to leave them in the car."
