Knollwood Garden Club To Host Event On Influential Landscape Architect

The lecture event will focus on the substantial and unique contributions of Marian Cruger Coffin.

GREENWICH, CT — The Knollwood Garden Club will host a lecture on Oct. 27 at the Greenwich Historical Society Vanderbilt Building titled, "Marian Cruger Coffin; Pioneer Landscape Architect."

The inaugural commemorative lecture on Marian Cruger Coffin (1876-1957) will be given by Nancy Fleming, author of the book, "Money, Manure, and Maintenance – Ingredients for the Successful Gardens of Marian Coffin" (Country Place Books, Weston, MA, 1995). It coincides with he centennial of her seaside garden, which was designed for J. Kennedy Tod on his Tod's Point estate.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the lecture and reception held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Fleming’s lecture will illuminate the substantial and unique contributions of Marian Cruger Coffin which shaped the field of landscape architecture and garden design during the first half of the 20th century.

The event includes a book signing and reception at the conclusion of the lecture. Admission cost is $25 and donations are welcome. Seating is limited; reservations are advised.

All proceeds from the lecture will be devoted to the restoration of Marian Cruger Coffin’s Seaside Garden, located on Greenwich Point.
