Man Accused Of Identity Theft, Forgery: Greenwich Police

GREENWICH, CT — A Maryland man accused of forgery and identity theft was arrested Saturday following an incident in Greenwich, according to police.

In a statement, police said officers responded to a Greenwich Avenue business around 1 p.m. after receiving a report of a "possible fraudulent attempt to purchase merchandise."

A description of the suspect was sent out to area authorities, and a police sergeant notified officers he had seen a person matching the description leaving the area in a vehicle with Maryland plates, according to police. (To sign up for Greenwich breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

Officers later located the vehicle and stopped it on Arch Street. The vehicle's passenger, who was identified as Cristian Ciulei, 26, of Forestville, Md., was subsequently arrested, according to police.

Ciulei was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree identity theft, second-degree forgery, criminal impersonation, second-degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit second-degree forgery, conspiracy to commit criminal impersonation, conspiracy to commit second-degree identity theft and criminal attempt at second-degree larceny.

Additionally, the driver of the vehicle was found to have a suspended license and was charged with operating a motor vehicle without a license and improper turn, according to police.
