Man Accused Of Intentionally Driving Vehicle Into Back Of Scooter: PD

Officers responded to a report of two males "actively fighting within the roadway" in Greenwich on April 5, police said.

GREENWICH, CT — A Port Chester, N.Y. man was arrested over the weekend after police say he intentionally drove his vehicle into the back of a scooter and then physically assaulted the scooter driver in the roadway.

Efrain Melendez-Guerra, 42, faces a series of charges stemming from the April 5 incident.

Officers were called to the 900 block of North Street at 7:25 a.m. on a report of two males "actively fighting within the roadway," police said in an arrest report.

"Further, it appeared that the two had been involved in a motor vehicle collision between a scooter and an SUV," police said. "An investigation on scene revealed that Efrain Melendez-Guerra intentionally drove his vehicle into the rear of a scooter causing serious physical injury to the victim. Further that after striking the scooter, Melendez-Guerra exited his vehicle and began to physically assault the victim roadside with his fists."

Melendez-Guerra was charged with: reckless driving; failure to drive upon right; improper passing-unsafe distance; operating a motor vehicle-harass/intimidation; second-degree breach of peace; third-degree assault; and first-degree reckless endangerment.

Melendez-Guerrawas unable to post a $50,000 bond, and he's scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on April 21.
