GREENWICH, CT — Earlier this week, Greenwich police made a second arrest in connection with a mail theft and altered check case.

Bryan Ramos, 21, of Methuen, Mass., turned himself in at Greenwich Police headquarters on May 10 on a warrant that charges him with larceny, identity theft, conspiracy and illegal possession of a personal ID info device, according to his arrest report. Ramos was able to post a $50,000 bond.

Police said in June 2021, Ramos and Laisha Joaquin, 20, of Queens, N.Y., stole checks from a mailbox on Doubling Road in Greenwich. The checks were supposed to be picked up as outgoing mail by the postal carrier.

When looking over their bank statements, the person who reported the theft noticed a discrepancy between the amount written on the check, and what it was actually cashed for, police said, noting that the check was initially made out in the amount of $1,500, but it was cashed for $8,900.

Joaquin was arrested in April and faces the same charges as Ramos. Her next court date is scheduled for June 28.
