Man Accused Of Trying To Deposit Counterfeit Checks: Greenwich PD

GREENWICH, CT — A New York City man is accused of trying to deposit two fraudulent checks and then attempting to withdraw over $8,000, according to Greenwich police.

The 33-year-old man, who is from the Bronx, N.Y., was arrested on July 13 on Greenwich Avenue shortly after 2 p.m. and charged with criminal attempt at third-degree larceny and conspiracy, his arrest report states.

On that date, plainclothes officers working in the central Greenwich business district noticed "suspicious activity" at a local bank, police said.

Officers detained the arrestee, and an investigation found that he and a co-conspirator agreed to deposit two fraudulent checks and attempted to conduct a subsequent withdrawal of $8,320 against the checks using the arrestee's checking account, police said.

The arrestee was able to post a $600 bond and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on July 28.
