The incident began at about 11 p.m Wednesday, when troopers were notified by the Greenwich Police Department that a vehicle was recently stolen from the town. In the vehicle, a 2003 Honda, was the victim’s cellphone, state police said.

Using the victim’s cell phone, investigators determined the stolen vehicle was in the area of Interstate-84 westbound near exit 47, state police said.

Troopers responded to the area and located the stolen vehicle in the area of exit 47, state police said. As the vehicle exited I-84 on the ramp, troopers attempted to stop it, state police said.

The man operating the stolen vehicle refused to stop, and intentionally rammed a state police cruiser, state police said. At least one trooper was outside of his cruiser and discharged his duty firearm at the suspect, state police said.

The suspect continued traveling off exit 47 onto Sigourney St. in Hartford where the stolen vehicle crashed at the intersection of Sigourney St. and Park St.

The suspect was not struck by the firearm, and did not report any injury from the crash. Two troopers were transported to the hospital for the evaluation of minor injuries, and released, state police said.

Central District Major Crime squad detectives responded to the scene and will assume the investigation into the discharge of the duty firearm.

The I-84 westbound exit 47 off-ramp was closed during the investigation and the state police helicopter Trooper One was employed.

The suspect was eventually caught, state police said at about 9 a.m.
