Man Faces Series Of Identity Theft, Forgery Charges: Greenwich Police
Police said on Feb. 1, they were called to a bank in Cos Cob on a report of a possible fraudulent transaction in progress.

GREENWICH, CT — A 56-year-old New York man was arrested in Cos Cob on Feb. 1 after police said he tried to fraudulently obtain money from two Greenwich banks.
Illya Tate, of the Bronx, N.Y., faces a series of conspiracy, larceny, forgery and identity theft charges, according to his arrest report. He was given a bond of $15,000.

Tate presented a fraudulent Maryland driver's license at the bank containing someone else's information in an attempt to withdraw $5,000 from an account, and get a $25,000 bank check, police said.
Police said Tate was involved in another financial crime earlier that day at different bank in the central area of Greenwich. Tate used a fake ID to impersonate someone else to withdraw $5,265 in cash, police said, noting that he also had a fraudulent credit card.

Tate told police he was brought to Greenwich by another person, who told him how to conduct the fraudulent transactions, Tate's arrest report says.
Tate is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Feb. 15.
