Man Receives Jail Time for Stealing $180K from Greenwich Dad

Ironically, the man who pleaded guilty to forgery, reportedly stood to inherit the money.

A 61-year-old man has been sentenced to 18 months in jail after pleading guilty to forgery in connection with the theft of checks from his elderly Greenwich father and forging them for a total of $180,000.

Thomas G. Herrmann, 61, of Madison, was arrested by Greenwich Police on Feb. 17 on one count each of first-degree forgery and first-degree larceny in connection with the thefts and forgeries that occurred over a four-year period, beginning in 2011. And on Thursday, Herrmann was sentenced to 18 months in jail in state Superior Court in Stamford, according to Connecticut Judicial Branch records.

Herrmann was accused of stealing more than 90 checks from his now deceased 93-year-old father who lived in Greenwich.

It turned out that Herrmann ended up stealing from himself. According to The Advocate, a prosecutor said Herrmann had been willed all of his father’s money, and his sister, MaryAnn Caporale, of Cos Cob, had been bequeathed all of their father’s property. It was Caporale who reported the money theft to Greenwich Police.
