'Music On The Great Lawn' At The Greenwich Historical Society Returns

GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich Historical Society’s great lawn will once again come alive with the sounds of music all summer long, beginning on June 8 and continuing through Aug. 31.

Beloved local favorites are joined by two new bands, Caribbean/calypso Silver Steel Drum Band and Margi and the Dapper Dots golden age jazz, offering a wide range of music styles designed to appeal to all age groups.

Greenwich’s own Chasing Romeo, a five-piece band led by Bob Capazzo, opens the series June 8 with their high-energy rock classics.

"We’re so pleased area residents have embraced the series which we launched three years ago to help build stronger community connections, a key focus of our mission," said Director of Marketing and Communications Dianne Niklaus. "Introduced this season, Historical Society members will enjoy the benefit of free admission to all concerts, and those who join or renew at the $100 level will receive our signature canvas market tote while supplies last."

The historic gardens are an ideal backdrop for enjoying the music while picnicking with friends and family. Bring your own or enjoy a delicious boxed-picnic dinner from series partner The Country Table.

Select from four picnic options which can be ordered in advance through the Historical Society website for pick-up at the concerts on arrival. Grounds open at 5:30 p.m., with music from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

"It’s a privilege for Chasing Romeo to kick off the series and an honor for me to share the stage with fellow talented musicians and soaring vocalist Martina Cordero," Capazzo, the band's leader, said in a news release. The new band name has deep family roots. "Romeo is my grandfather’s name and my middle name, so it seemed a perfect fit, especially considering its link to a classic theatrical production."

First Bank of Greenwich is sponsoring the series for a fourth season.

"It’s a perfect fit considering our mutual interest in fostering deep community connections," said First Bank of Greenwich President and CEO Frank Gaudio in a news release.
