New Administrator Named At Greenwich High School

Andrew Byrne has been named the Folsom House administrator and mathematics program coordinator at Greenwich High School.

GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich High School announced this week Andrew Byrne has been named the school's Folsom House administrator and mathematics program coordinator. He was appointed to the position by the school's headmaster, Ralph Mayo, and is scheduled to begin the position Aug. 17.

In a statement, district officials said Byrne will replace Dana Tulotta, who recently accepted a position as the school's assistant headmaster. (To sign up for Greenwich breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

"The high school is very fortunate to have such an experienced leader to be appointed as the Folsom House administrator," Mayo said in a statement. "Mr. Byrne is a highly collaborative individual who works extremely well with students, parents and staff. GHS is pleased that he will be rejoining our Leadership team as the staff will clearly benefit from his ability to develop innovative practices and strategies that will move the GHS Mathematics Department and the Folsom House team forward."

In his new role, Byrne will be responsible for the "social, emotional and academic needs" of Folsom House students. He will also oversee Folsom House staff, as well as curriculum and instructional practices for the mathematics program, among other responsibilities.

Byrne most recently served as director of human resources at the United Nations International School in New York City. Prior to that, he worked as the interim Folsom House administrator and the interim math and computer science program administrator for Greenwich High during the 2018-19 school year.

Before his time in Greenwich, Byrne spent eight years in Darien as an assistant principal at Middlesex Middle School and as co-principal for Royle Elementary School. Prior to that, he spent ten years at Sacred Heart Greenwich serving in multiple roles, including dean of faculty, academic dean, mathematics department chair and mathematics and science instructor.

"I am excited to return to the teaching and learning community of Greenwich High School as head of Folsom House," Byrne said in a statement. "My goal will be to provide leadership during these unprecedented times to assist teachers and administrators in their mission to fulfill the ideals of the Vision of the Graduate and to support the academic and social-emotional needs of our students as we prepare them for the future."

Byrne said he will be an "active contributor" to the community in his new role by sharing his experiences, creating an open dialogue and building new relationships.

"I look forward to working collaboratively with Mr. Mayo and the leadership team to provide our students with the most rigorous, accessible, and comprehensive academic, social, and emotional learning experience possible," Byrne said.

Byrne holds degrees from Bates College, the University of Massachusetts Boston and Fordham University.
