New Greenwich Dessert, Coffee Shop's Opening Delayed
The new gourmet shop was scheduled to open in Cos Cob this week, however the ribbon cutting ceremony was postponed. Here's why.
GREENWICH, CT — A new gourmet dessert and coffee shop was scheduled to open this week on E. Putnam Avenue in Cos Cob, however store officials announced Monday the ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled for that afternoon had been postponed until further notice.
Chocoylatte Gourmet has attracted a lot of interest from residents who have passed by the building at 121 E. Putnam Avenue, many of whom were excited to learn when the store would open.
A spokesperson for Chocoylatte Gourmet, Frank Piemonte, said in an email to Patch the postponement was due to an electrical issue in the building. He also said they were working to get the problem rectified and would announce a new opening date soon.

Chocoylatte Gourmet is a passion project for owner Kelly Dantas, the idea for which came from a desire to open a place where families could enjoy desserts that taste as good as they look.
"Dessert is a chemistry," Dantas said to Patch last week. "If you have the right ingredients, you have the best dessert. If you have the wrong ingredients, that's when you mess it up."

Dantas developed all of the shop's recipes herself, as well as the overall concept of the store, which she described as a "grab-and-go" experience, offering a huge assortment of chocolates, candies, cookies and other dessert items. It will also serve traditional coffee, flavored coffee creations, teas, hot chocolate and fresh juices.
The store occupies a corner lot that has been completely renovated to replicate a European-looking café. There will also be an 8-foot tall chocolate fountain.
"I wanted to do something traditional but also bring a little bit of a European style here," Dantas said. "I would call it a traditional, old-European style."
