New Principal Appointed At Julian Curtiss School

GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones last week announced the appointment of Eduardo Calderón as principal of Julian Curtiss School, effective July 1.

Calderón will replace Trish McGuire, who announced her intention to retire at the end of the school year. Calderón is currently the principal of Cornerstone Academy for Social Action Middle School in New York City Department of Education’s District 11 in the Bronx, a position he has held since 2020.

"Mr. Eduardo Calderón’s educational experience is impressive, while demonstrating strong, critical, and dynamic leadership at schools on the elementary and middle school levels," Jones said in a news release.

"He will work in partnership with the staff, families, and Julian Curtiss’ diverse community that is recognized as a source of strength and a reflection of our world to provide a quality education for all students with high expectations for success and excellence," Jones added. "The interview committee, consisting of GPS senior administrators, teachers, and parents recognized Mr. Calderón as a great fit for JC from an impressive and diverse pool of high-quality candidates across the region."

Calderón said he was "honored" to embark on a new journey with the JCS community.

"Principal McGuire and the staff have done incredible work in service of all students and families at JC for more than a decade and I am humbled to pick up the baton from such a dedicated school leader," Calderón said.

"I feel optimistic about the future as we work together to build upon the strong foundation that has already been laid,” Calderón added. "I am thankful to Superintendent Dr. Jones and the interview committee for recognizing the alignment between my past experience and the work that is ahead of us in the months and years to come. As I get to know the staff, families, and students in preparation for next school year, I look forward to hearing their own hopes and dreams for the future of a school they care so much about."

Prior to 2020, Calderón was the principal of the Wakefield School, P.S. 16, in the Bronx from 2017-2020 where he implemented educational and administrative programs for preK-5 students of a diverse population. He had also served as an assistant principal at Seton Falls Elementary School, P.S. 111, in the Bronx (2016-2017) and Aerospace and Science Academy, P.S. 127, in Queens (2012-2016).

Calderón earned a bachelor's degree in sociology with a minor in African American studies, from New York University; a master's in special education & teaching from Mercy College; and a master's in public cchool building leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University. He also earned certificates in school district leader, school building leader, and elementary education teacher, preK-6 from the University of the State of New York, State Education Department.
