The incident occurred Thursday afternoon, Sept. 21, on Greenwich Avenue.

GREENWICH, CT — Three suspects from New York allegedly assaulted a Greenwich police officer on Sept. 21 when they tried to steal more than $10,000 worth of handbags from the Saks Fifth Avenue store on Greenwich Avenue, according to authorities.
Officer Michael Hall was checked out by medical personnel following the fracas, but was not injured, said Lt. David Nemecek. The trio was charged with robbery, larceny, assault on an officer and related violations in connection with the fight.
Arrested were Hassan J. Carter, 21; Jennifer Y. Nervil, 22; and Quandel Baldwin, 25, after they fought with Hall inside the store and shoved him into a rear glass door shattering it.

The Sept. 21 incident marks the second time in less than a month that the Greenwich Avenue Saks store has been the target of a grab-and-run crime. A week earlier, on Sept. 14, thousands of dollars worth of clothing was stolen by a pair of thieves.
"They were trying to steal handbags," Greenwich Police Lt. David Nemecek told Patch of the Sept. 21 incident. "Our officer was in the store and blocked their exit, and he was able to capture one of them but the others fought with him before they ran out of the store."

Those two suspects were captured quickly when they were found hiding under a vehicle nearby, according to Nemecek, who added that the department is continuing the investigation into possible accomplices.
In addition to the above mentioned violations, the three were also charged with criminal mischief and interfering with an officer, and were each held in lieu of $150,000 bonds. All three are scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Oct. 6.
