North Street School Gets a New Principal

Jill Flood, an assistant principal at Hamilton Avenue School, has been promoted to principal of the North Street School.


Jill Flood, the assistant principal at Hamilton Avenue School, has been appointed principal of the North Street School.

Flood’s appointment, announced by Greenwich Schools Superintendent William McKersie, is effective July 1. She succeeds Charles Smith who accepted an assistant superintendent’s position in the Wilton public school district.

McKersie said in a statement, that Flood “knows the North Street School Community well, having spent seven years as a teacher in that school.”

Flood came to the Greenwich Public Schools in 2000 as a special education teacher at North Street, which has an enrollment of 424 students. From 2007 to 2009 she served as a special education instructional coach and behavior consultant for the elementary and middle schools in Greenwich. She has worked as an assistant principal in two Greenwich elementary schools—Julian Curtiss School and Hamilton Avenue School.

McKersie also said, “Ms. Flood is a superb instructional leader. Her experience as teacher, district coach and administrator reflects a keen understanding of research-based instructional strategies and practices that meet the needs of diverse learners.”

Flood said in a statement, "While I will truly miss the Hamilton Avenue School community, I am thrilled to accept the position as the North Street School principal. It is a wonderful school with an incredibly dedicated and hard-working staff. Together we will create the optimal learning environment for all students by focusing on innovative, research-based instructional practices and social emotional learning.”

She has been a member of the School Improvement or School Data Teams at three elementary schools. She is a Safe School Climate Coordinator and Social Emotional Learning Committee Chair. She is also the Greenwich School Administrators Association’s (GOSA) representative for Connecticut’s Teacher Evaluation and Mentoring Program (TEAM).

Flood also is a board certified behavior analyst and has worked with teams throughout Greenwich to create and employ behavior plans.

Flood received a bachelor of science in elementary education from SUNY New Paltz, a master of science in special education from Dominican College, and a certification degree in administrative leadership from Sacred Heart University.
