Nurses Earn Greenwich Hospital Awards
The awards were given during Greenwich Hospital's employee service and nurse's week ceremonies.
Two Greenwich Hospital nurses have been named recipients of awards for their service during National Nurses Week.
National Nurses Week was celebrated May 6 -12 at Greenwich Hospital. On Thursday, May 8, at the hospital’s annual Ceremony for Excellence in Nursing, Greenwich resident Lynne Reynolds, a registered nurse in the Labor and Delivery Department, was honored with the Helen Meehan Award for Excellence in Nursing. Established in 1989 in honor of Helen Kirschbaum Meehan, RN, a professional whose career at Greenwich Hospital spanned 53 years, the award is given to a nurse who demonstrates excellence in nursing practice, teaching or leadership.
On May 9 at its annual Employee Service Awards Dinner, Greenwich Hospital named registered nurse Helen Backus, the Marian Nowak Award winner. Each year at the annual appreciation event, the hospital celebrates employees with extended service to the hospital, from five years and longer, in five-year increments. The highlight of the event is the presentation of the award, given to an employee who embodies the best of Greenwich Hospital’s values. For Backus, the award is the culmination of 25 years as a member of the Greenwich Hospital staff.
The award was established in 1990 in memory Marian Nowak, a Holocaust survivor andGreenwich Hospital employee for 41 years, who exemplified the qualities of hard work, kindness, friendship, loyalty and humility.
