His greatest joy was his family. He always went above and beyond to make holidays and family vacations fun and exciting. He actively encouraged and supported each of his children to pursue their own passions in life. Upon his retirement he moved to Dorset, VT, where he loved to host and entertain family, friends and relatives at his “Country Home.” He also took great pleasure in going to Saratoga race track where, very often, he was a lucky winner. After many years in Vermont, he built a new home in Kent, CT. He returned to Greenwich to be close to his family. A highlight of his life was spending time with his grandsons Zachary and Jake. He loved planning and creating each new adventure including fishing trips, kayaking, wood shop projects, hikes, and farm visits.

Ben (Poppy) was the family patriarch, an amazing storyteller, great friend, and talented artist. In his final decade he immersed himself in activities and projects which enriched his daily life. He spent his days drawing, watercolor painting, wood burning images, carving, and creating videos with soundtracks on his computer. He took great pleasure in creative pursuits and learning new things. Ben was young at heart and loved to laugh. When asked about his “secret” to a fulfilling and long life he’d say, “Keep challenging your mind, learn new things, and everything in moderation.”
