Obituary: Ronald Dubin, 89, Of Greenwich

Ronald N. Dubin, age 89, of Greenwich, CT, and Santa Fe, NM, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2021. He was a businessman, a gentleman, and above all, a family man.

“You must always assume you have the ability to prevail no matter what you do in life.” -Ron Dubin. And prevail, he did. In addition to his corporate success, he was known for his generosity, sense of humor, legendary Christmas cards and deep affection for those close to him.

Ron was born and raised in New York City to Harry and Juliette Dubin and graduated as valedictorian from Barnard School. He received his BA from Williams in 1953, where he was editor of the school magazine, The Purple Cow. Following college, he served in the US Air Force as an intelligence officer in Korea and remained an active private pilot throughout his adult life.

His first job was with Entertainment Production Inc., where he rose to become the youngest TV producer of an audience-participation show on CBS. Always the entrepreneur, he founded several successful ventures. In 1984, together with his partner Tom Clark, he formed Dubin Clark & Company, Inc., a leading middle-market private equity firm in Greenwich, CT, and now in Boston, MA.

Ron maintained homes in Greenwich, CT, and Santa Fe, NM, where he was actively involved in non-profit institutions. He was a board member of the Greenwich Symphony, the Santa Fe Opera and an honorary board member of The School for Advanced Research, where he established the Ron & Susan Dubin Fellowship dedicated to supporting traditional Native artistry. Every year since 1993, Native American artists have studied in the Dubin Artist Studio to preserve and further their craft.

When asked what in life he was most proud of, Ron consistently replied, “my family.” He is survived by the great love of his life, Susie, his sister Jane, his children, Colin (Sheena), David (David), Danielle (Peter), Denise (Max) and step-daughters, Elizabeth (Ned) and Diana (Alex), whom he loved like his own. He leaves behind ten grandchildren: Reilly, Emily, Angus, Harry, Lulu, Susie, Sally, Caroline, Ben and baby Marley, whose cousins will regale her with “Poppi” stories. If you were lucky enough to be his friend, he made you feel like family, too.

There will be a family graveside service. In consideration of COVID, a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The School for Advanced Research in Santa Fe, NM (sarweb.org).
