Opening Day Looms for Greenwich High School Teams

GREENWICH, CT — High school sports practices have been ongoing for nearly two weeks and preseason scrimmages are in full swing, but the real deal begins Thursday - opening day of the regular season for many varsity teams.

Here are the scheduled opening contests for varsity teams at Greenwich High School. For a complete season schedule of Cardinal varsity, JV and freshman teams, visit the CIAC web site.

• field hockey - Thursday, 9/6, vs. St. Joseph, 4:30 p.m.
• girls volleyball - Friday, 9/7, vs. St. Joseph, 4 p.m.
• girls soccer - Friday, 9/7, vs. Brien McMahon, 4:30 p.m.
• boys soccer - Saturday, 9/8, at Brien McMahon, 11 a.m.
• football - Saturday, 9/8, vs. Trumbull, 4 p.m.
• cross country - Tuesday, 9/11, at Fairfield Ludlowe, 4 p.m.
• girls swimming - Wednesday, 9/12, at Danbury, 4 p.m.
