Over $8K Worth Of Merchandise Stolen, 4 People Arrested: Greenwich PD

GREENWICH, CT — Police said a group of people used specially lined bags to steal over $8,000 worth of cologne, perfume and handbags from two stores in downtown Greenwich on Oct. 25.

Sandro Oliveros-Chero, 24; Gabriela Hernandez, 21; Brayan Oliveros, 27; and Edimar Colmenares, 20 — all from the Bronx, N.Y. — were charged with organized retail theft less than $10,000; third-degree larceny; fourth-degree larceny; illegal possession of a shoplifting device; and several conspiracy charges, their arrest reports show.

On Oct. 25 shortly before 3:30 p.m., Greenwich patrol and plainclothes officers working in the central Greenwich business district were notified about a shoplifting incident involving six people.

The location of the incident on associated arrest reports was Greenwich Avenue.

Latiak said the group split up before police arrived, but officers were able to detain and identify Oliveros-Chero, Hernandez, Oliveros, and Colmenares. Two other people were able to get away.

An investigation found that the group stole a variety of perfumes and colognes worth more than $1,400, and several handbags valued at more than $6,900, Latiak said.

Police found the arrestees in possession of foil-lined bags, known as "booster bags," arrest reports said. The bags are used to evade loss prevention systems.

The arrestees were unable to post bonds of $25,000. They're scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Nov. 8.
