Parents Mixed on Greenwich School Start Time
Some parents want to start the high school at 8:30 a.m., but others worry it would make it difficult for elementary school parents.

GREENWICH, CT- Parents continue to debate the merits of changing the school start times.
Superintendent of Schools William McKersie has presented recommendations for three sets of schedules, according to Greenwich Time.
The proposal that got the most support in a survey last month would start elementary schools at 8:45 a.m., the middle school at 8:15 a.m. and the high school at 8 a.m.

The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests that middle and high schools start class at 8:30 a.m. or later in order to align with the biological sleep schedule of adolescents.

Another proposal would start the high school at 8:30 a.m., middle schools at 7:45 a.m. and the elementary schools at 9 a.m., but some elementary parents worried about the impact on work schedules.
The Board of Education is expected to vote June 14 on proposals for school start time changes.
