Patrick McIllaney, 79; Long-Time Greenwich Resident Who Was a Retired Truck Driver; Served in the British Regiment

Patrick McIllaney passed away on Monday, March 23, 2015 at the Greenwich Hospital after a long illness.

Patrick was born on February 12, 1936 in Dumbarton, Scotland to John McIllaney and Catherine Frasier.

In 1950s he was in the British regiment, the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and served in Korea, Germany and Japan.

Patrick immigrated to New York from Scotland in 1959 and later moved to Greenwich where he resided till his passing.

On October 22, 1962 he married Margaret Carr from Rutherglen, Scotland who also had immigrated. Patrick worked as a truckdriver most of his adult life and retired a proud Teamster from Arnold’s Bakery in 1999 after a career of 34 years.

Patrick was a loving Father, Grandfather and Husband and was known by his friends to have a clever wit.

Patrick was an active member of the 9th District Veterans Club and the Byram Veterans Club.

Patrick is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret. His memory will remain in the hearts of his daughers, Karen Brooks (John) of Las Vegas, Nevada and Patricia Maczuga (Marek) of Greenwich. Besides his children, he is survived by five grandchildren, Megan, Christopher, Tyler, Brian and Kasey as well as a sister, Margaret Kennedy of Dumbarton, Scotland and his brother-in-law, James King of Greenwich.

He is predeceased by his sisters, Kathy, Mary, Ellen, Agnes, Chrissy and Annie and his brothers Hugh and John.

The family would like to thank all our friends and family who have been so generous and supportive during this time.

A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 95 Henry Street, Greenwich, CT on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made in Patrick’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
