PD: Greenwich Man Drove Intoxicated with Child in Car

The child wasn't in a car seat and the man had allegedly been drinking while driving.

GREENWICH, CT- A Greenwich man was arrested by police after he allegedly drove intoxicated with a child in his car.

Police responded to Sherwood Place around 8:15 a.m. March 19 to check on the welfare of a child that had possibly been picked up by an intoxicated person, police said.

While at the scene police noticed a male subject arrive via car with a young child in the back seat. There was no car seat for the child.

The driver, identified as Ruben Palma-Aguilar, 40, of Sherwood Place smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes, police said. He failed a field sobriety test.

Police also noticed an open can of beer underneath his car which had apparently been discarded under the car after he arrived at his home. An identical beer can was found in the passenger seat, police said.

He was charged with operating under the influence, risk of injury to a minor, second-degree reckless endangerment, drinking while driving, driving without a license and no car seat for a child under 7.

He was unable to post a $10,000 bond and was held by police. He is due in court March 28.
