'Pelican Dreams' with Audubon Greenwich

Audubon naturalist Ted Gilman to discuss bird CT conservation efforts in a program jointly hosted with Avon Theatre, Stamford Land Trust.

Audubon Greenwich is teaming up with the Avon Theatre of Stamford and the Stamford Land Trust for a viewing of the documentary ‘Pelican Dreams’ and a discussion on Audubon efforts to conserve birds in Connecticut.

The film will be screened at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4 at The Avon Theatre, located on Bedford Street in Stamford).

The documentary follows a wayward, starving California brown pelican from her “arrest” on the Golden Gate Bridge into care at a wildlife rehabilitation facility, and from there explores pelican nesting grounds, Pacific coast migration and survival challenges.

Following the film, Audubon Naturalist Ted Gilman will discuss waterbirds and ways Audubon is working to conserve birds in Important Bird Areas across Connecticut.

Gilman has served as an Environmental Education Specialist and Naturalist at the Audubon Center in Greenwich since 1977. A lifelong birder, he received his bachelor’s degree in biology from Earlham College, in Richmond, IN and did graduate work in Science and Environmental Education at Cornell University. Ted has observed birds across the country, including both of our native pelican species. He has served as an ornithology instructor at the Audubon Camp in Maine, and on Audubon trips to Trinidad & Tobago and Kenya. Ted has also pursued bird study in Europe, China, Costa Rica, Honduras and El Salvador. He enjoys sharing his love of the world of birds with people of all ages.
