Prayers for Peace -- A Community Vigil in Greenwich

In the wake of the murders of nine people in a South Carolina church, Greenwich Police Chaplain Rev. Thomas Nins will host a prayer vigil.

A prayer for peace vigil will be held in Greenwich in response to this week’s massacre of nine people attending a Bible study class in a South Carolina church.

The Greenwich Police Department’s chaplain, The Rev. Thomas Nins, will host a prayer for peace vigil at 7 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Greenwich, 10 Northfield St., where he is the pastor.

“This prayer for peace is in direct response to the violent crime acted out in South Carolina. All are welcome,” according to the statement issued by the department Friday.

The suspect in the shooting deaths of nine people at an African-American church in Charleston, SC, Dylann Storm Roof, 21, reportedly has confessed to the crimes, saying he wanted to start a race war.
