Retired Greenwich Police Lieutenant Dies At 82
Greenwich Police have announced the death of retired Lt. James Fahy, a 23-year veteran of the department.
GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich Police announced this week the recent death of retired Lt. James Fahy, a 23-year veteran of the department. He was 82 years old.
In a Facebook post Thursday, Chief James Heavey said Fahy began his decades-long career with the department on Dec. 16, 1968, and retired on Aug. 1, 1991. (To sign up for Greenwich breaking news alerts and more, click here.)
Born in New York City, he was a graduate of All Hallows High School in the Bronx, N.Y., and received degrees from Norwalk Community College, Iona College and the University of New Haven.

Prior to his time with the department, Fahy served as a sergeant in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1968 and continued as a sergeant first class in the United States Army Reserve.
According to Heavey, Fahy remains the only recipient of the department's Medal of Honor for his actions during a shoot-out with armed suspects and for saving the life of a state trooper.

Fahy received the Connecticut State Police Citation for Courageous Action, the American Federation of Police Silver Star and the Sons of the American Revolution Law Enforcement Commendation Medal, and was the Greenwich Police Officer of the Year, John A. Clarke Award winner in 1975, Heavey said.
He is survived by his wife and sister-in-law.
"We join all members of the department in extending our sincere sympathy to the Fahy family," Heavey said on Facebook.
