Riverside Resident Joins Robinson+Cole as Partner

Maria A. Scungio joins firm to expand Intellectual Property + Technology Law Group

Robinson+Cole welcomes Maria A. Scungio as a partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property + Technology Law Group, who will be resident in the firm’s New York City office. Ms. Scungio has more than 20 years of experience managing worldwide trademark portfolios, including counseling, prosecuting, exploiting and enforcing intellectual property rights.

Ms. Scungio, the former co-chair of Locke Lord LLP’s trademark, copyright and advertising practice group, advises Fortune 500 companies, mid-cap companies and start-up ventures in all phases of intellectual property asset creation, management, exploitation and enforcement, both in the U.S. and globally. Working directly with clients to develop strategies to help achieve their business objectives, she has managed diverse portfolios of approximately 30,000 trademarks for clients in various industry sectors, including search, clearance, prosecution and defense of trademarks worldwide. Ms. Scungio also handles all aspects of trademark, trade dress, copyright and design patent enforcement, including infringement actions in U.S. federal courts and before administrative tribunals, UDRP proceedings, takedown requests and anti-counterfeiting measures in coordination with U.S. Customs and foreign border protection agencies. She has served as the lead IP attorney on acquisitions and divestitures for a wide range of consumer brands, including well-known brands in the categories of pharmaceuticals and personal care products, nutritional products, apparel and footwear, food, alcoholic beverages, and tableware and home decorative items.

Ms. Scungio is the Immediate Past Chair of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) – US, an international group of intellectual property professionals dedicated to the harmonization of intellectual property laws. She is also an active member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association. At the start of her career, Ms. Scungio clerked for the Hon. Jane A. Restani at the United States Court of International Trade.
