Riverside School's 4th Annual STEM Fair Set For March 20

The PTA-sponsored STEM Fair Open House is for Riverside School families.

From Riverside School PTA: After more than 10 years of success with its annual Science Fair, Riverside School has expanded this event to include Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). STEM skills are extremely important for 21

st Century citizens, and this broader approach will allow students to explore many different kinds of
questions about the world they live in.

A STEM Fair Open House will be held for Riverside School families Tuesday, March 20 from 6:00 – 7:30pm. Students will also present their projects to their classes the following school day. More than 210 students from grades K-5 have chosen to participate in this PTA-sponsored event; this marks a >30% increase in
registrants over last year.

Principal Christopher Weiss has been extremely supportive of this annual event. “Our school has a strong focus on innovation, whether it’s through our students' and teachers' engaging use of technology in the classroom, through our school-wide Genius Hour (during which students can freely explore topics of their
own interest), or in the exciting work happening in our Innovation Space. The STEM Fair is an exciting opportunity for students to think creatively and sharpen their STEM skills as they experiment or develop solutions to real-world problems.”

Students are exploring a broad range of projects including: why alligator eyes shine, science of ballet, how to save the planet from meteorites, thermochromic pigments, and building and testing a Tesla coil.
