Riverside Student Tyler Shaver Selected For US National Soccer Team

Tyler Shaver, 14, of Riverside, CT was selected for the Under-15 US Soccer Boys National Team and will be attending the training camp in Bradenton, Florida next week. Tyler is a defender for the Beachside Soccer Club of CT, where he plays with the U15-16 Academy team, coached by Mickey Kydes. Academy soccer represents the highest level of junior soccer played in the US, and the Beachside team is one of the strongest U15-16 teams in the Northeast.

“I have known Tyler since he started playing soccer in the Old Greenwich Riverside Community Center recreational and travel programs. I am so excited to be working with him again at the Academy level,” commented Kydes. “Tyler’s development over the years has been outstanding and now Tyler is ready to take it to another level, as he is playing with kids that are two years older. Tyler’s selection to the National Team is a testament to his attitude, work ethic, commitment, and soccer brain. We wish him the best of luck at training next week.”

Tyler is one of 36 boys in the US to be selected and the only U15 player from the state of CT in his age group. This is the fourth time Tyler has been selected to attend a US National training session; he also participated in three US National training camps last year, one in Tampa and the other two at the US Soccer National Training Center in California. Tyler was also selected to attend the Region 1 Olympic Development training camp in Arizona last year. Last summer, Tyler was invited to train with Club Brugge, in Brugge, Belgium.

“I’m really excited to join the U-15 Boy’s US National Team and to attend the training camp in Florida,” said Tyler. “I have learned a lot from Mickey, as well as my teammates. The challenge of playing with older players on one of the best teams in the Academy has energized me to raise my game. My plan is to keep training hard in so I can represent the United States in international competitions later this year.”

Tyler attends Brunswick School, where he is in the 9th grade and on the high honor roll. He started his soccer career with OGRCC, joining Beachside this year after playing with New York Soccer Club.
