Sacred Heart Greenwich Wants To Add A Chicken Coop To Its Campus
As part of the school's agricultural program, no more than 10 chickens will be housed in the coop to hatch chicks this spring.
GREENWICH, CT — In an effort to support the school's expanding agricultural program, Sacred Heart Greenwich is seeking to build a chicken coop on campus.
The Greenwich Planning and Zoning Commission is set to review a request on Jan. 22 for a final site plan and special permit for the construction of the coop.
According to documents submitted to the commission, the chicken coop would measure 8.5 feet by 20 feet and be located in the northeast corner of 1177 King St., the site of the all-girls private school.

The coop would abut an existing shed and be made of a prefabricated structure, a description of the proposal says. Stormwater runoff from the coop's roof would be captured in the crushed stone pad base and infiltrated.

Any eggs in the coop will not be for sale and no slaughtering is proposed, submitted plans say, noting the coop would be located 183 feet from the nearest property line, which is compliant with regulations.
