Sept. 11 Ceremonies Scheduled In Greenwich

The town will come together Sunday to remember the events of Sept. 11, 2001.

GREENWICH, CT — The town will once again come together this weekend to remember the 21st anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, which claimed 32 victims with ties to Greenwich.

Sunday, Sept. 11, 8:46 a.m.-10:28 a.m., Cos Cob Memorial Park

The service will start promptly at 8:46 a.m., with a cannon and bell ringing noting the time the North Tower was hit. Participants will gather at Cos Cob Park for remarks by Joe Kelly, a former Greenwich High School rugby coach and current board of education member, who was in Manhattan and witnessed the attacks unfold.

Following the remembrance service, the Honor Guard will lead a procession and guests past the waterside pavilion where flowers will be available to lay at the base of the 9/11 memorial. There will be a prayer, laying of wreaths, presentation of colors and a 21-gun salute at the memorial.

All are invited to walk through the labyrinth to pay their respects. The Honor Guard will stand at attention and bells will ring at noted times until 10:28 am. The service will also include a reading of the names of the 32 Greenwich victims.

Sunday, Sept. 11, 6 p.m., Glenville Fire Firehouse, 266 Glenville Road

The Glenville Volunteer Fire Company will hold its annual commemoration of Sept. 11 with a ceremony at the firehouse.

First responders will gather at 6 p.m., for a ceremony at 6:30 p.m.
