The September 11th Memorial/Greenwich is hosting a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, May 12 at 12:00pm to celebrate the initiation of construction.
Earlier this spring, the Memorial’s board of directors was given final approval from the town to proceed with plans for the project. Now, with construction soon underway, the space is expected to be completed and available for use by September 11, 2015.
Fundraising is still ongoing for the Memorial, which will require a maintenance and insurance fund to ensure that it will be available to the community for years to come. The board is also raising additional funds for an educational endowment, which will enable school children to engage in a greater understanding about the significance of the September 11th events.
Open to members of the community.
Press is invited to attend.
The September 11th Memorial/Greenwich is part of the Greenwich Community Projects Fund, Inc. a 501 (c)(3). The memorial will honor the 32 people, with ties to Greenwich, who died on September 11th 2001.
