Sewer Rehabilitation Work Continues On Greenwich Avenue
Work is now taking place on Greenwich Avenue late last week between Amogerone Crossway and West Putnam Avenue.

GREENWICH, CT — The latest segment of sewer rehabilitation work began on Greenwich Avenue late last week between Amogerone Crossway and West Putnam Avenue, also known as Work Zone 7, according to the Department of Public Works.
As part of the town’s annual preventative maintenance program, the DPW Sewer Division inspected all of the town sanitary sewer mains along Greenwich Avenue to identify areas in need of repair.
Work was divided into separate zones, with the first five work zones already complete. Construction in Work Zone 6 is ongoing on Greenwich Avenue between Lewis Street and Amogerone Crossway.

Construction in Work Zone 7 will be done between 5:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., DPW said. Work may begin earlier or extend beyond 4 p.m. on a site-specific basis due to site conditions or to minimize business impacts. Work is anticipated to occur weekdays.
The work mainly requires digging in the road to expose the sewer main and replacing a small section of the sanitary sewer main, DPW said.

"The purpose of this work is to provide many continued years of service life to the critical sewer infrastructure that serves the community and limit the potential for digging up the road for sewer repairs after any future paving is performed along Greenwich Avenue," DPW said. "Planned, preventative infrastructure maintenance like this results in a lower project cost and less disruption to the community as a whole and means the likelihood of a system failure is much reduced."
The department noted that work to maintain "critical sanitary sewer infrastructure and is completely separate from any other future road and/or intersection improvements."
Drivers should stay alert and drive slow in the area.
DPW spokesperson Renee Wallace said point repairs in Zone 7 will likely be completed in late September, and then there will be final trench restoration that will follow at a later date.
