GREENWICH, CT — Police said two vehicles were recently stolen in Greenwich, one of which was later involved in a crash in Westport. According to Lt. Mark Zuccerella, a Subaru was reported stolen from Pine Street on Wednesday, April 29.

The vehicle was still unaccounted for as of Monday morning, however it later was involved in a crash in which a vehicle stolen from Naugatuck hit a police car in Westport, Zuccerella said. (To sign up for Greenwich breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

According to Zuccerella, the Subaru "did not crash, but was with the [vehicle] that did and got away." An arrest has been made in connection to the vehicle theft in Naugatuck, Zuccerella said.

Additionally, Zuccerella said a group of juveniles attempted to steal a Porsche from an open garage on Edgewood Drive on Saturday, May 2, but were unsuccessful. The vehicle was left running in the garage, Zuccerella said.

Both the Porsche and the Audi had keys left inside the vehicles, Zuccerella said.

In addition to the vehicle thefts, items were reported stolen from unlocked vehicles parked on Pine Street, Beech Street and Hawthorne Street South on Thursday, April 30, Zuccerella said. All three vehicles were left unlocked.

Last week, Zuccerella said five vehicles were stolen in town between April 24-26:

  • a Jeep parked on Bowman Drive
  • a Jetta parked on Meadow Drive
  • a Mercedes-Benz parked on Rockland Place
  • a Mazda parked on Stanwich Road
  • a Ford parked on Indian Head Road

Two unlocked vehicles, a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee parked on N. Bowman Drive and a 2005 Mercedes Benz C320 parked on Rockland Place, were also reported stolen on Monday, April 27, according to Zuccerella.

"I cannot stress [enough]...that these cars are not stolen for profit," Zuccerella said in an earlier email. "They are stolen to commit crimes."
