Suspect Pulled Scam To Get 240 Oxycodone Pills, Greenwich PD Says

GREENWICH, CT — A 30-year-old South Yarmouth, MA man was arrested by Greenwich police on narcotics charges on March 25 after he allegedly tried to obtain 240 Oxycodone pills from a Byram pharmacy through fraudulent means, according to authorities.

The case began when a pharmacist from the North Water Street establishment contacted the Greenwich Police Narcotics Section that someone was attempting to fill an alleged prescription for 240, 30mg Oxycodone pills with what appeared to be fake information.

Specific details of how the suspect was trying to fill the prescription were not disclosed, but Greenwich police soon set up a surveillance detail near the pharmacy to capture him.

When the suspect, later identified as Derek J. Monick, arrived to pick up the prescription, Greenwich police officers swooped in and apprehended him.

"The accused related that he was there to pick up a prescription that he knew to be fraudulent," stated police, adding that a subsequent search of Monick and his vehicle turned up "1.2 grams of Fentanyl/Heroin, 2 metal spoons, a syringe, and $1,471 in cash."

Monick was charged with:

  • Possession of narcotics
  • Criminal attempt at possession of narcotics
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Criminal impersonation
  • Criminal attempt at obtaining a controlled drug by fraud

He was released after posting bond on bail of $5,000 and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on April 10.
