Greenwich Waste Center Reopens After Police Investigation: UPDATE

Police said earlier the facility was closed due to a "suspicious package" reported at the facility.

GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Holly Hill Waste Disposal and Recycling center reopened Thursday afternoon following a bomb squad investigation. Police said in a tweet around 1 p.m. that the center was closed due to a "suspicious package" reported at the facility.

Around 2:30 p.m., police tweeted the facility had reopened after the Stamford Police Department's bomb squad investigated the suspicious item.

"It appears to have been inert military training ordnance," police said on Twitter.

Police said earlier there was no danger to area residents and they expected the situation to be resolved in a couple of hours.

The facility is located at 4 Holly Hill Lane. Its typical operating hours are from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday - Friday, and 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
