Tamarack Country Club Seeks To Add New Pool Bar, Landscaping
The club does not have an efficient way to provide beverages to golfers, nor does it have a formal bar area by the pool, the proposal says.

GREENWICH, CT — The Tamarack Country Club in the northwest part of Greenwich is looking to construct a new covered pool-side bar for members, along with landscape improvements, according to documents submitted to the town's planning & zoning commission.
The club is looking for a pre-application review from the commission.
The pre-application process allows for a non-binding discussion with the commission about the pros and cons of a proposal before a substantial investment is made in developing plans, reports and studies.

Currently, the club does not have an efficient way to provide beverages to golfers, nor does it have a formal bar area by the pool, said attorney for the applicant, Bruce Cohen, in documents filed with the town. A portable bar is sued at the pool to provide drink service during the summer months.
"As an improved member amenity, the club is proposing to construct a formal/permanent bar off the northern end of the Day Room building to better service its members at both the pool complex and on the golf course," Cohen added.

To accommodate the bar, the north side of the Day Room building would be altered by infilling the existing windows to create a solid wall, Cohen said.
The Day Room is used as the "home base" for the club's summer camp program and provides an activity area to use during inclement weather. In 2004, the club and the Day Room underwent major renovations.
Although it will be roofed, the bar area will be open on its remaining three sides. Additional work associated with the project includes minor alterations to the club's pool patio area, golf cart path and landscaping adjacent to the Day Room building.
Cohen said the club does not expect the project to impact the site's overall floor area, on-site wetlands, or the club's existing on-site utilities. The project is anticipated to decrease impervious coverage over existing conditions, Cohen noted.
The Tamarack Country Club is a private, non-profit club that was founded in 1929. In 2021, the club was ranked the fourth best golf course in Connecticut by Golf Digest.
The club features an 18-hole golf course designed by Yale University graduate Charles Henry Banks; a large two-story clubhouse; a pool complex with a wading pool; pool house with snack bar; and the detached Day Room building. There are also five outdoor Har-Tru tennis courts and two maintenance buildings.
Approximately 261 parking spaces are available on the site.
The proposal has not yet been scheduled to go before the Greenwich Planning & Zoning Commission.
