Teen, 19, Charged In Robbery Of Greenwich Jewelry Store: PD

Police said the 19-year-old man, who was in a wig and makeup, stole $175,000 worth of jewelry from the store at gunpoint.

GREENWICH, CT — A 19-year-old man was arrested on Oct. 28 and accused of robbing a Greenwich Avenue jewelry store at gunpoint, according to police. The jewelry was estimated to be worth $175,000.

Edgardo Bautista-Gallardo, of San Francisco, Calif., was charged with first-degree robbery; first-degree larceny; four counts of threatening; interfering with an officer; and breach of peace, police said in a news release.

On Oct. 28 at approximately 3:34 p.m., a man later identified as Bautista-Gallardo walked into a jewelry store on Greenwich Avenue and requested to see jewelry from store associates, police said. The address is associated with Tiffany & Co.

Police noted that Bautista-Gallardo was wearing a wig and makeup.

"After the jewelry was shown, Bautista-Gallardo displayed a gun and told the employees and the security guard he was going to shoot them if they did not give him the jewelry. They cooperated and gave him the jewelry. Bautista-Gallardo then fled the store," police said.

The security guard followed from behind and called 911 with Bautista-Gallardo's direction, police said.

After a brief foot pursuit by Greenwich Police Department detectives who were working in the area, Bautista-Gallardo was arrested in the area of the Town Hall parking lot, police said.

Police said they recovered a BB gun and the jewelry Bautista-Gallardo took.

No injuries were reported. Bautista-Gallardo was unable to post a $750,000 bond.
