Teen Fled From Officers, Used Electronic License Plate Cover On Vehicle: Greenwich Police
Police say a teenager initiated a race between another vehicle and then fled from officers who tried to conduct a traffic stop.
GREENWICH, CT — A 17-year-old boy is accused of fleeing from police at a high rate of speed after racing another vehicle and using an electronic license plate cover after officers tried to conduct a traffic stop on New Year's Eve, according to an arrest report.
The boy, who was not identified due to his age, surrendered to Greenwich police on a warrant on Jan. 26. The boy was charged with violation of readable plate requirements, reckless driving, engaging police in a pursuit, illegal racing on a highway and failure to drive in a proper lane.
On Dec. 31, 2025, at 8:30 p.m., police officers observed a 2025 Volkswagen traveling side-by-side at a low rate of speed with another vehicle heading eastbound on East Putnam Avenue, an arrest report said. The location on the report also lists Hillside Road.

"The accused then honked his horn, which initiated a race between the two vehicles. Officers attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop on the accused but the vehicle continued eastbound on East Putnam Avenue at a high rate of speed, pulling away from the police cruiser after deploying an electronic license plate cover," police wrote in an arrest report. "The accused passed several vehicles on the left, crossing over the double yellow center lines into oncoming traffic."
Police noted the fleeing vehicle was later found unoccupied.
