Teen Leads Greenwich Cops On Car Chase And Crashes: PD

The incident occurred during the early morning hours of Nov. 2.

GREENWICH, CT — A 16-year-old boy led Greenwich police on a car chase at about 3 a.m. Friday before crashing the vehicle he was driving in the area of Indian Head Road and Riverside Avenue, according to authorities.

No injuries were reported, and the alleged juvenile offender's identity was not disclosed due to his age.

The incident began when Greenwich officers were dispatched to the area of Hendrie and Riverside avenues on a report of a suspicious vehicle.

After spotting the vehicle, officers tried to pull it over, but it took off, driving above the speed limit , weaving outside of its land and turning off its headlights.

It crashed nearby and two occupants jumped out and ran. The alleged driver was caught, but whether the other occupant was also detained was not disclosed.

The arrested teen was charged with reckless driving, engaging police in a pursuit, evading responsibility, failure to drive in a proper lane, operating a vehicle without a license and other related violations.

He was held in lieu of bail of $500 and is scheduled to appear in juvenile court at a later date.
