Temple Sholom Selma Maisel Nursery School Pushes Full STEAM Ahead with Ribbon-Sawing Ceremony
Temple Sholom Selma Maisel Nursery School children past and present gathered together to unveil the school's new dedicated STEAM Lab.
Greenwich, Conn.—August 29, 2017—The Temple Sholom Selma Maisel Nursery School (300 East Putnam Avenue) is taking hands-on learning to a new level this school year with the addition of a full STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics) program to enhance its current pre-school curriculum.
On Thursday, August 24, 2017, SMNS children past and present gathered together to unveil the new dedicated STEAM Lab with a special ribbon-sawing ceremony.
“When we stay on the cutting edge of early childhood education, our students reap the benefits,” said David Cohen, Nursery School Director, who attended an Early Childhood STEM Conference in Pasadena, CA, earlier this year. “We see public and private elementary schools investing in these programs and we want to ensure our students will arrive ready for the challenge.”

Beginning in September, children enrolled in the 3’s and Pre-K will have the opportunity to visit the STEAM Lab as one of their weekly specials. This dedicated classroom will serve as a colorful hub for creativity and student inquiry. Children will be engaged with prompts and safety instruction, but will ultimately have the freedom to explore areas such as woodworking, robotics, magnetism, weights and measures, wind resistance, electronics/circuitry, sewing and more.
In addition to the STEAM lab, the Temple Sholom Selma Maisel Nursery School has also added a new Gymnastics Studio with bars, beams and vaults to help teach children balance, strength, flexibility and coordination.

“The children are going to flip for this new gymnastics studio!” said Cohen. “It will really do wonders for developing gross motor skills and building confidence.”
While guided by Jewish values, the Temple Sholom Selma Maisel Nursery School welcomes families of all faiths, ethnicities and backgrounds.
