Tesei: Use Of Greenwich Town Hall For Higbie Event Is Fair

The First Selectman is defending the use of the Town Hall by controversial former Navy Seal Carl Higbie for a panel event.

GREENWICH, CT — First Selectman Peter Tesei is defending his decision to allow controversial political pundit and Greenwich native Carl Higbie to use Greenwich Town Hall for an event Wednesday night.

The event, part of a discussion series from the conservative America's Voice News, is being called by critics as an unfair use of Town Hall because it is commercial in nature, writes the Greenwich Time.

Higbie, a former member of the Trump Administration, was forced to resign his post following the discovery of past racist, sexist and other objectionable remarks. He apologized for the past statements.

In an Op-Ed Tuesday night on Greenwich Patch, Tesei argues that Town Hall is the safest place to hold the event, which he acknowledges could be controversial.

"The forum organizer's past rhetoric and bigotry do not reflect the Greenwich community and the civility that our residents show one another," Tesei wrote. "While we do not agree with the organizer's opinions, it is our hope that we will demonstrate that Greenwich is a place where the right of free speech can be exercised with civil discourse in a safe environment."
