GREENWICH, CT — A section of I-95 northbound near Exit 5 in Greenwich has fully reopened after a tractor-trailer crash with injuries and an oil spill closed lanes on the highway for several hours on Wednesday.

The closure was first announced shortly before 12 p.m. by Connecticut State Police, who told Patch the crash involved two vehicles.

One lane was eventually opened, but traffic was backed up for miles for most of the afternoon.

It was not immediately clear what caused the crash or what the severity of the injuries was.

A tractor-trailer crash with injuries and an oil spill closed I-95 northbound at Exit 5 in Greenwich on Wednesday afternoon, according to Connecticut State Police.

The closure was announced shortly before 12 p.m. Drivers were being urged to seek alternate routes.

An update from the CT Department of Transportation at 2:26 p.m. noted the right and center lanes are closed. Traffic cameras still showed congestion in the area as of 2:50 p.m.

It was not immediately clear what the extent of the injuries was. State police told Patch the crash involved two vehicles.
