Traffic Delays Expected As Greenwich Begins Major Infrastructure Projects
Various roads will be closed over the next several weeks, starting with the intersection of East Putnam Avenue (Route 1) and Sherwood Place.

GREENWICH, CT — The first of several major infrastructure improvement projects in Greenwich is scheduled to begin next week on Aug. 1, which will require road closures that will likely slow traffic during the day.
Starting on the 1st, the intersection at East Putnam Avenue (Route 1) and Sherwood Place will be completely closed for one month, and Route 1 will be narrowed to one lane in each direction, according to the Greenwich Department of Public Works.
The Greenwich Board of Selectmen Thursday unanimously approved the closure, in addition to four others scheduled for the coming weeks. Click here to view the board's July 27 agenda for the other upcoming road closures.

"The Town of Greenwich, Department of Public Works, Engineering Division is managing construction to improve the drainage system in the downtown area, currently at the intersection of Route 1 and Sherwood Place," wrote officials in a statement. "This project involves the installation of a storm drain and requires a traffic pattern alteration and road closure at the intersection of Route 1 and Sherwood Place in order for this work to be completed. The proposed traffic pattern alteration and construction is to commence on Tuesday, August 1st and is estimated to last approximately 1 month, dependent on the weather and any unforeseen issues."

"We recommend motorists take extra time when traveling the area and seek alternate routes whenever possible," said officials.
Access to Sherwood Place from Route 1 will be temporarily eliminated during this traffic pattern; access to the properties on Sherwood Place will be through a detour from Church Street to William Street to Sherwood Place.
"Parking along Route 1 between Greenwich Avenue and Milbank Avenue will be significantly impacted due to the presence of this traffic pattern," wrote officials. "Prior to working in a specific area, on street parking will be posted with 'NO PARKING' signs. Please take notice of the posted signs in the Town’s right-of-way. Any vehicles that are parked in the restricted stalls will be towed."
"It is the Town’s policy to keep persons informed and involved when such projects are undertaken," wrote officials. "The Engineering Division of the Department of Public Works along with CDM Smith Inc. will be working together to make sure you are informed and aware of what is happening.
