Traffic Stop Leads To Arrest Of Man Wanted In Arizona: Greenwich PD

A Port Chester, N.Y., man was wanted out of Arizona on kidnapping and sexual assault charges, according to police.

GREENWICH, CT — A traffic stop in the Byram section of Greenwich led to the arrest of a Port Chester, N.Y., man who was wanted out of Arizona on kidnapping and sexual assault charges, according to an arrest report.

Bernabe Gutierrez-Orellana, 39, was taken into custody on Feb. 15 shortly after 6 p.m., after police in the area of Mill Street and South Water Street conducted a traffic stop for an unregistered vehicle, police said.

During the traffic stop, officers discovered Gutierrez-Orellana had an extraditable warrant out of Arizona, which was confirmed with the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, police said.

The warrant charges Gutierrez-Orellana with two counts of sexual assault, sexual conduct with a minor and kidnapping, his arrest report said.

Gutierrez-Orellana was given a court-set bond of $500,000, and remains in Greenwich police custody pending extradition to Arizona.

He also faces several motor vehicle charges from the Greenwich traffic stop, the CT Judicial Branch website shows.

The charges include failure to insure, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, operating without a license and improper use of marker, registration or license.

Gutierrez-Orellana is scheldend to appear in Stamford Superior Court on March 1.
