UPDATE: Residual Delays in Old Greenwich Following Truck Fire, Road Closure

A power line fell onto a truck, setting it on fire.

Update:

There are residual delays in the Old Greenwich area of town as crews continue to make repairs to utility lines in the area of Sound Beach Avenue.

The area of Sound Beach and East Putnam Avenue was closed to traffic Monday morning after a power line fell atop a utility truck that caught fire. The truck went up in flames as Greenwich firefighting crews waited for Eversource to shut off power to the lines.

Greenwich Police said one lane of East Putnam remained closed to traffic early afternoon as Eversource crews make repairs. As of 1:10 p.m., there is one customer still without power in the area.

Local resident Andrew Buss snapped a photo of the scene. It was “Quite the blaze. So glad no one was hurt,” Buss said.

A power line fell onto a truck on East Putnam Avenue in Old Greenwich Monday morning, setting the truck ablaze.

Greenwich Professional Firefighters Local 1042 posted on Facebook, “A power line fell onto the truck, crews had to wait until the power was turned off before they could extinguish the fire.“

The fire was reported about 7:45 a.m. on East Putnam Avenue, just east of Sound Beach Avenue,

Police said traffic lights at the intersection of Sound Beach and East Putnam aren’t working and at one point about 500 EverSource customers were without power, according to WFSB. As of 9:43 a.m., there were 47 customers still without service, according to the EverSource outage map.
