Veteran Greenwich Firefighter Promoted To Fire Marshal's Office

John Kiernan has worked for 38 years in public safety.

GREENWICH, CT — Joined by his wife, Amy, daughter, Kara, and a host of town and department officials, veteran Greenwich Firefighter John Kiernan was promoted to deputy fire marshal during a ceremony at Greenwich Fire Headquarters Tuesday.

Kiernan has served in public safety for 38 years, having been a New York City and Greenwich police officer prior to joining the Greenwich Fire Department. He still holds special officer status in the Greenwich Police Department, and can make arrests and perform extra duty assignments, according to officials.

"His new title is a natural fit," said Greenwich Fire Chief Peter Siecienski during the swearing-in ceremony. "He is an ambassador for the department and the town."
