Water Main Work On Brookside Drive Slated To Begin In June
The Greenwich Board of Selectmen on Thursday approved a road closure to help facilitate scheduled water main construction.
GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Board of Selectmen on Thursday gave the green light for water main work to begin on Brookside Drive next month.
The selectmen originally heard the plan two weeks ago, but waited to vote in order to give residents time to hear about the project. Dino Georgiadis from A.J. Penna & Son, the company that will undertake the work, said residents in the construction area were notified by May 19.
Georgiadis told the board the start date for construction is tentatively scheduled for June 13, with mainline work to begin around June 20. Overall, the Aquarion Water Company project will take about 12 weeks to complete, depending on weather and other unforeseen circumstances. Roughly 2,300 feet of water main will be replaced.

A daily road closure will be in effect from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. from Grove Avenue to Field Point Road.
Detour plans are split into two sections. In section one, Brookside Drive will be closed between Grove Lane and West Putnam Avenue. Traffic will be detoured through Grove Lane, Dearfield Drive, West Putnam Avenue and through a portion of Brookside Drive.

Once construction reaches Route 1, the second detour can begin.
Brookside Drive will be closed between West Putnam Avenue and Field Point Road. Traffic will be detoured through West Putnam Avenue, Brookside Drive, Field Point Road and Prospect Street.
Selectwoman Lauren Rabin had concerns about the impact on businesses in the area, particularly a gynecologist office that's located within the closure.
"The road closure is mainly for outside traffic. Anyone who needs to get inside will be allowed in," Georgiadis said.
Rabin also asked about water disruption. Jim Dabbo from Snyder Civil Engineering, which will oversee construction, said once the new water main installations are complete, each customer’s water service line will then need to be transferred from the old water main to the new water main.
During this switchover, Dabbo said, there will be a short disruption in service, generally for an hour or so.
Vendors working with Aquarion will contact customers directly to coordinate scheduling of their service line switchover.
"We greatly appreciate residents’ patience during this project," said John Farrell, Aquarion’s pipeline coordinator, in a recent news release. "We will work closely with our customers, contractors, and town officials to coordinate the work and minimize disruptions."
To keep customers informed about scheduled/unscheduled work, Aquarion utilizes an Everbridge notification system to call affected customers.
